Our History

Our History

Caledonia Funeral Aid is part of the charity Community Renewal Trust, a charity which is rethinking approaches to end persistent poverty or inequity in Scotland. The inspiration to launch first Caledonia Cremation, followed by Caledonia Funeral Aid came when a personal bereavement experienced by one of the founders of the charity brought to light the painful difficulties faced by families when there is no provision for funeral costs.

Funeral costs have increased faster than inflation over the past 20 years, and this has impacted Scottish families in a negative and distressing way, pushing one in seven into debt.

From this first-hand family tragedy Caledonia Cremation, our not-for-profit funeral directors, offering low-cost direct cremations, was born.

Caledonia Funeral Aid was subsequently set up to assist all bereaved families, but particularly those families struggling with funeral costs
